Indie band The Tin Roofs record their debut album in a converted rice mill
The four-piece from a small town in Maharashtra recorded 'Courtyard' live, with the mill's echo as part of the sound. The album mixes Marathi, Hindi and English lyrics.
The Tin Roofs, a four-piece band from a small town in western Maharashtra, have released their debut album, Courtyard, recorded live over five nights in a converted rice mill.
The band could not afford a studio for a full album. A friend's family offered the empty mill, which has a high wooden roof and a natural echo the band decided to keep. Microphones were hung from beams, and the band played each song together, with few overdubs.
